RFID technology introduces several challenges - with one of the most daunting being how to handle the vast quantities of data it generates. In an RFID network, readers scan continuously for nearby tags. As a result, many networks produce an abundance of raw data every day, much of which has little or no value. While there are various approaches to solving this problem, it is clear that an effective means of isolating and managing meaningful data is needed to realize the value of RFID. Most RFID middleware is installed in a centralized fashion where all data from the network must reach the middleware before any processing can take place. This paper outlines the problems with such architectures and explains the RFID Anywhere solution.
