There are several factors that will soon begin to drive a wave of consolidation in the identity management arena. Organizations investing in identity management need to take this imminent trend into account when evaluating solutions. Include in selection criteria an examination of vendor viability (likely acquirer or acquiree), product viability (if acquired, whether the product will nonetheless remain fairly stable) and the fragility of vendor partnerships in the coming tumult. First among these driving factors is the success of IBM, which has a broad portfolio of identity management products. IBM's strongest product here is its Web single sign-on (SSO) product, Access Manager.
