The Home Office launched the Chipping of Goods Initiative in March 2000 to show how property crime can be reduced throughout the retail supply chain using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based information management systems. This case study describes how Unilever's UK Home and Personal Care company, Lever Faberge, in partnership with Safeway Stores and logistics providers, Tibbett and Britten and Wincanton, tagged packs of personal care products at the point of manufacture and then used the tags to track the goods through the supply chain to the store shelf.
