The library of Keeble College at Oxford University is an important center of information and scholarly research for some 600 students and professors. The library stays open around the clock, yet the staff works just during the day and evening hours. Without staff always present, there were problems of book loss and locating books if they were taken out at night. In addition, methods used for book check-out, check-in and inventory reporting took time and reduced speed of service. To address these issues, library administrators and staff evaluated ways of making improvements. The library staff saw the most effective solution in 21st-century technology: a Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) system and chose to install the Intelligent Library System (ILS) from Checkpoint.
