Osaka Gas is Japan's second largest natural gas supplier. The company chose ESRI's ArcGIS because it wanted to reduce data input time and costs. Previously, facility maps had been input into the computer by digitizing paper maps of construction drawings that were based on handwritten gas pipe construction information. The company was ready for a technological change and decided to convert to an enterprise-shared spatial database and to use GIS as a common platform for the company's internal systems.
