Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull NHS Trust (Teaching) is one of the UK's largest acute hospital trusts. Like all health care institutions around the world, their goal is to provide high quality health care efficiently and cost-effectively. Recognizing this challenge, two technology firms - Daconi (a Proxim Wireless Partner) and Intelligent Medical Micro Systems - joined forces to develop and pilot the world's first wireless patient location tracking system at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. Using Proxim's Wi-Fi infrastructure as its foundation, the system was designed to avoid medical errors and improve hospital efficiency.
