The Oakland Police Department employs approximately twelve hundred people, including seven hundred police officers on their front lines. They needed a solution that would easily provide officers with the most up-to-date information. Afaria allows police at Oakland PD headquarters to engage the officers with up-to-date information and to drive crime prevention and law enforcement. After installing the new hardware, they implemented an IP-based network. In order to offer wireless coverage in many areas throughout the city, the Oakland PD then installed a 802.11b wireless LAN.
