Landscape Planning in Germany is based on the recently amended nature protection law. The quality of the plans mostly depends on the quality of the gathered data and the quality of ecological evaluation methods applied. Geomatics could support the planning process, visualisation and implementation of the plan. This paper presents experiences gathered during the development of the planning viewer "PLANalyst" based on Map-Objects lt. 2.0 and Visual Basic 6.0. It also gives further prospects on the required data management with ArcGIS to improve the landscape planning process and landscape monitoring in Germany.
