When Munich-based Wacker Chemie GmbH prepared to upgrade its SAP System from release 3.0F to release 4.5B, it realized that the upgrade could choke its database server-barely a year old and already nearing capacity. Not wanting to take any risks, Wacker Chemie quickly evaluated its options, and decided to call on Sun Professional Services to replace the existing SAP System server with a clustered Sun Enterprise 10000 server solution. The challenge for Sun was twofold-it needed to comply with stringent, contractually stipulated performance benchmarks, and the production deadline was less than two months away. Sun consultants rose to the challenge.
