Ethernet came into existence in November 2000, when the IEEE formed the EFM forum study group. At end of 2001, the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet working group created the 802.3ah EFM task force with the target of certifying the document as a standard in mid 2004. 802.3ah Ethernet technology bridges the gap between user needs and existing solutions by offering the following features: Global standardization (IEEE 802.3ah), guaranteed interoperability, simple network deployment, configuration & provisioning of networks and services, support of diverse topologies and compatibility with access technologies.
