The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is Australia's official statistical organization. ABS has a large number of systems in a multi-vendor environment and wants to get more integration of systems, a greater use of common business-infrastructure systems, and to reduce the number and disparateness of systems. ABS commenced a major re-engineering of their Business Statistics systems. This redevelopment, called BSIP, aims at better integration of the business surveys, better management of data providers, improved ability to make use of external electronic data sources, and significant cost reductions. Extensive use of Web Services and process management based on Notes, Lotus Workflow and Domino is expected to be a key part of the development.
