Since its founding four decades ago, UCSD has rapidly become one of the top institutions in the nation for higher education and scientific exploration. UCSD's interdisciplinary ethos, combined with its tradition of innovation and risk-taking, underlies the campus' research prowess as well as its ability to recruit top scholars and students. But the reality of a large university campus is that it can be difficult for students to escape a feeling of isolation. Believing that wireless mobile computing technology can improve communication, foster community, and support learning, a collaborative team investigated the use of devices running Windows Mobile software.
