The choice of radio component in a sensor network node is particularly important as it affects not only energy consumption, but also software design. Bluetooth is the most popular commodity spread spectrum radio available on the market today. This paper investigates the usefulness of Bluetooth in a sensor network by implementing a Bluetooth host stack (TinyBT) in TinyOS that is tailored to the sensor node domain and to conduct a series of experiments using this stack on sensor nodes.
