The Commercial Fisheries Division of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game manages natural resources to increase fishing yields, while ensuring the future of species. One of the major challenges faced by the Division is delivering accurate daily fish counts to its managers and to fisheries. Much of the data is gathered in remote parts of the state, and must be synthesized quickly for delivery. Inaccurate counts carry severe consequences. Because the Commercial Fisheries Division provides its information free of charge and operates on a shoestring budget, it needs a system that is flexible, easy to maintain, and doesn't require extensive programming to produce reports. Oracle Database Standard Edition fits the bill.
