Its population of more than 104,000 makes Arvada the sixth largest city in Colorado. As the twentieth century drew to a close, the thriving Denver suburb faced a potential information systems failure due to its patchwork of obsolete and disparate applications. Duplicate data sets made for complicated reporting, and the many customizations that had been created over the years made the systems difficult and costly to maintain. Arvada chose Oracle E-Business Suite to replace a wide variety of systems, some of which had originated in the late 1980s, including multiple instances of Keystone Financials, a homegrown financial application Arvada shared with other municipalities, and multiple databases and paper-based processes.
