Airbus is a leading aircraft manufacturer with a family of airliners on the market ranging in capacity from 100 to more than 500 seats. Airbus, like other aerospace manufacturers, faces a number of challenges and urgent priorities: reducing programme costs and compressing product development schedules while producing lighter aircraft, which in turn reduce fuel requirements and costs, optimizing payload and maintaining and enhancing performance. They needed a consistent high-performance computing architecture that will enable numerical accuracy throughout the lifespan of an aircraft, and HP Itanium 2-based systems running HP-UX 11i provided them with all that and more.
