This paper discusses the directory tree quota (DTQ) features available on Sun StorEdge Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems. Directory tree quotas allow resource utilization to be controlled at the directory level; allowing limits to be set on the number of files or amount of disk space that a directory can utilize on a per-volume basis. These limits are tracked in real-time to enforce the quota rules. Quotas can be assigned on sub-directories within a volume to limit the amount of space and/or the number of files created under each sub-directory. There is no relationship between directory tree quotas and user/group quotas.
