Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico played a key role in the Human Genome Program (HGP). Database administrator for the Center for Human Genome Studies, Los Alamos has relied on Sun technology for it's main computing power for over a decade. The main file server and Sybase database engine is a Sun SPARCserver running on the Solaris Operating Environment. Workstation power is supplied by SPARC workstations and HyperSPARC machines running Solaris. The heaviest computing at the Los Alamos Center for Human Genome Studies includes ongoing batch analysis, database storage, and dynamic database interface. Sun runs the software, provides the network capabilities, and handles the storage and file sharing.
