Not long ago, the directory services market was a two-horse race between market leader Novell's NetWare Directory Services (NDS) and eDirectory offerings and rival Microsoft's Active Directory (AD). That's not the case anymore. Active Directory, once the newcomer and less technologically advanced directory services offering, has now surpassed eDirectory on all fronts from market share and the breadth and depth of available third-party applications to more robust technical service and support and more embedded management functions.
