Antrim Area Hospital is one of five that make up the United Hospitals H&SS Trust, one of Northern Ireland's largest acute trusts. Intended to minimise the risk of avoidable harm to patients and also to maximise the benefits of their therapy, clinical interventions are a qualitative tool to help evaluate the difference it makes having a pharmacist on the wards. To achieve this, the data they provide has to be accurately recorded and analysed. The hospital has automated the entire process of clinical intervention with a new bespoke software application used on HP's wireless enabled iPAQ pocket PCs.
