While the 4.9 GHz band offers benefits to public safety users, the spectrum also has drawbacks. Many of the applications that public safety agencies want to use in the 4.9 GHz band can already be operated reliably over metro-scale Wi-Fi mesh networks from Tropos Networks. In the future, Tropos Networks will extend its product line to incorporate 4.9 GHz in pure and hybrid 802.11/4.9 GHz systems.
