Redback's approach is to help incumbent carriers and service providers use their existing DSL to deliver WiFi services in a hotspot. Redback's SMS and SmartEdge platforms in combination with the "NetOp Policy Manager" can be used to deploy a centrally managed WiFi service. Operational expense savings can be achieved when the WiFi service is managed centrally as it reduces the number of truck rolls to the hotspot. The centrally managed WiFi service can also be easily integrated with a Web portal for customer self-enrollment, authentication, access to different tiers of bandwidth, credit card payments, and the providing of localized content.
