Founded in 1989 and located in Surbiton, Surrey, Equanet is now one of the UK's top 20 suppliers of PC and network related hardware and software. Equanet had a seven year old bespoke system with limited reporting facilities and it was not certified as year 2000 compliant. The company also used Sage Sovereign accounting system that did not integrate with anything else, so with three separate databases there was a significant amount of duplication. In mid-1998 Equanet decided to look for a Windows-based mid-range solution and shortlisted Great Plains Dynamics, Scala and Navision Financials. After four or five in-depth demonstrations of each product, the company selected Navision Financials from solution centre Ibex Cavendish, mainly for its ease of customisation.
