The idea behind Business Performance Management (which some companies refer to as Corporate Performance Management) is that all aspects of business planning, operational and financial management, performance management in the form of scorecards and similar approaches, and analysis and reporting should be treated in an integrated, unified fashion instead of through the piecemeal approach that has characterised previous applications. Hyperion's Business Performance Management applications leverage Hyperion Essbase XTD. This delivers the underlying technology necessary to support both the company's applications and custom developed BI software. Components include Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server plus a variety of supporting services, like application integration, query/reporting tools, common security and a personalized web interface.
