Reconfigurable OADMs (ROADMs) facilitate network design, commissioning, set-up and provisioning, both at first installation and at each upgrade. Their combination of new integrated switching technologies, feature-rich automation, and management tools provide efficient network monitoring and troubleshooting. As a result, WDM becomes both an easily manageable layer, as SONET/SDH has been for many years, and also the convergence transport layer for all infrastructures and services where capacity requires multiple streams, or where distance requires amplified transmission.
