Together, Alcatel and Orange are achieving their shared vision of real-world 3G services. This paper traces their partnership from the pre-commercial to commercial launch of the Orange 3G services offering, also known as Orange Intense. It describes Alcatel's contribution, including the trialing of services, installation and rollout of the 3G infrastructure, supply and hosting of applications, and its role as solutions integrator and manager of the third-party content and application providers. While this plethora of roles clearly indicates Alcatel's comprehensive involvement in the Orange 3G project, successful completion of the complex end-to-end acceptance process within Orange's ambitious time-to-market were the critical success factors.
