Initially developed by carriers to deliver Ethernet to enterprise customers at bandwidth levels previously unavailable (10 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 1Gbps), Carrier Ethernet services are becoming prevalent across leading European metropolitan centers. Some services are available across national boundaries. Carrier Ethernet services offer enterprises an alternative WAN transport service to augment and replace existing leased line and data services.
