Adelaide, Australia, the capital of the state of South Australia, is a quaint but bustling urban center. As far back as 1995, the Adelaide City Council determined that IT would be a necessity for improving city services and enabling growth. To meet its goal of providing services to not only residents but also tourists and students, in 2002 the council decided to expand its library offerings beyond the city's two existing facilities. When the time came to begin the library project, Carroll and his team did not need to look far for a hardware vendor. The council has been doing business with Dell since 1999, when Dell won a request for quote (RFQ) for some desktop systems. Adelaide libraries now boast numerous new services supported by Dell servers and storage.
