Novell Virtual Directory Services is a local, application-specific identity store that lets ISVs and developers easily build in identity management capabilities as part of an application, rather than requiring a separate directory service. As a built-in component, Novell Virtual Directory Services allows an application to integrate seamlessly into an existing identity management infrastructure without the logistical and political challenges of deploying a separate directory service in support of the application. With Novell Virtual Directory Services as an integrated component, an application is able to store specific directory data locally while still making policy and authorization decisions for users based on existing identities stored in a corporate directory.
