The use of snapshot technology is becoming more pervasive in many organizations because of its benefits over other traditional methods of backup. For the Hitachi Thunder 9500 V Series modular storage systems, Hitachi Data Systems offers two internal mirroring solutions: Hitachi ShadowImage In-System Replication and Hitachi Copy-on Write Snapshot software (formerly known as Hitachi QuickShadow). This paper provides a brief look at these software solutions and then presents an in-depth evaluation of Copy on-Write Snapshot software capabilities, with periodic comparisons to ShadowImage In System Replication software facilities.
