United States Securities and Exchange Commission Regulation 17 CFR § 240.17a-4 ("Regulation") establishes certain records retention requirements for the securities broker-dealer industry. Pertinent to this compliance assessment is the Regulation's authorization for the retention of records "by electronic storage media". The term "electronic storage media" is defined by the Regulation to mean "any digital storage medium or system . . . that meets the applicable conditions" set forth in 17a-4(f). The focus of the independent evaluation conducted by Cohasset Associates in this White Paper is on how the AIT WORM and SAIT WORM magnetic tape products developed by Sony Electronics satisfy the applicable conditions of Rule 17a-4(f).
