The Air Force Pentagon Communications Agency provides critical IT systems to the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Headquarters- United States Air Force at the Pentagon. AFPCA started out working in a highly decentralized database environment, operating a number of different homegrown systems. In 1996, AFPCA migrated these databases onto a single platform and used Remedy's Action Request System to build a custom help desk application to track help desk requests and projects. The application was complex, yet AFPCA decided that a packaged application would better meet their growing needs. AFPCA evaluated several commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) help desk applications and selected Remedy Help Desk.
