Military, Government, and Communication Product lifecycles are anywhere from 5 to 25 years, and have remained relatively constant during most of the 20th century. Unfortunately, the embedded components and computers that make up their subsystems have gone through an upheaval in the past 2 decades which has seen the exit of nearly all suppliers from the "military grade" qualified products list (QPL) business. The COTS (commercial off the shelf) solutions are also problematic as they are experiencing continuously shorter life cycles as well. The industry needs to find new solutions to the product life cycle management crisis in military, government, and communications equipment.
