As a producer of construction materials such as crushed stone, sand and gravel, Vulcan Materials Company operates over 300 quarries, plants, and facilities. Maintaining desktop and portable computers in the company's IT environment presented a challenge because many of these locations use slow network connections as well as some dial-up modems for network access. Needing increased security and improved desktop-management features, the company is deploying Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 to its 3,000 desktop and portable computers.
