University of Wales, Newport, is one of the UK's most popular educational establishments with 1,000 staff and 9,000 students working two campuses. With an increasing educational reliance on IT and growing student numbers, University of Wales, Newport, needs to maintain an efficient computing environment. Fail safe storage is a central requirement, but the university's two campuses were served by distributed storage that was inflexible and hard to manage. Its existing back-up solution was also believed to be antiquated, inconsistent and time consuming. The university called in HP partner ICM, which devised and implemented a centralised storage area network (SAN), with an HP StorageWorks EVA5000 disk array offering sufficient capacity for the combined sites.
