This whitepaper discusses how Web Service design principles can be used to support a service-oriented architecture (SOA). As companies increasingly seek to expose applications to internal and external users, it is critical that the exposed interfaces are well defined, easy to use and meaningful to the service consumer. This means that they must more closely reflect business concepts and requirements (documents, processes) rather than low-level technical concepts (APIs, data types, and platforms). Interfaces exposed in this way are referred to as Business Services and the overall approach is known as a service-oriented architecture (SOA).
