Recently, Oglethorpe Power Corp., a $1 billion power company, faced a daunting information management challenge. To prepare for deregulation and improve operational efficiencies, the corporation split into three different companies - Oglethorpe Power Corp., Georgia Transmission Corp. and Georgia System Operations Corp. (GSOC) - and the GSOC IT department was challenged with the task of managing information for all three organizations. GSOC knew it needed to provide the IT department with extra support to avoid a bottleneck in maintaining and publishing the companies' hundreds of thousands of documents on the GSOC intranet. Instead of hiring more IT staff, the company decided to implement a content management system. After evaluating a number of vendors, including Documentum, iManage and Open Text Corp., GSOC selected the Stellent Content Management system.
