The Child Protective Investigations Section CPIS) of Florida's Broward County Sheriff's Office investigates allegations of abuse and neglect against children. CPIS needed fast Internet connectivity with broadband coverage for investigators to be able to remotely access the records for review and for data entry. The Broward Sheriff's Office deployed laptops equipped with Sierra Wireless Aircards to each of its CPIS investigators and supervisors. Investigators were now able to use their down time -waiting for local police to meet them at a case or waiting for court hearings - to access email and do more timely entry of case data into HomeSafenet, the state's child abuse database.
