The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) supports planning and management of statewide transportation projects. FDOT was faced with the need to add more test environments to support its development projects, but its data center was already filled to capacity. FDOT needed the ability to manage hardware and software independently to be able to build and deploy services quickly. Rather than adding a physical server when a new development and test environment is needed, FDOT uses VMware GSX Server to create a virtual server machine instead. Virtual servers free FDOT's development teams from its data center's space and power limitations, and they make provisioning a new environment much faster and easier.
