Oak Associates, an independent equity investment manager for institutions and individuals, wanted to steer clear of a problem that many financial services companies face: using too many servers to support the large number of software applications required for doing business. With more than $9 billion in assets under management, Oak Associates sought an effective way to deliver the highest quality financial services while managing IT resources. The Oak Associates IT team gradually migrated its applications - including accounting applications, virus detection servers, help desk software and mail gateway - onto VMware virtual machines.
