There are significant benefits to HP in utilizing the products of the companies with which it goes to market: BEA is a good example. One of the most critical elements in all high-volume, transaction-based applications is the presence of a robust application server infrastructure. HP required a better return on IT investment by increasing server utilization and decreasing software license expenditures. They also wanted to change application teams' mindset from dedicated application servers, to embracing a new shared environment paradigm. The solution was the initial deployment of five HP rp8400 servers with the HP Virtual Server Environment for HP-UX, including HP-UX Workload Manager and HP Serviceguard.
