Vienna-based Spardat is the information technology provider for the Austrian Savings and Loans Bank organization, which includes approximately 1,100 branches. Spardat develops banking software, provides technical resources, and maintains a data center to support these banks. To continue meeting its service agreements, Spardat needed to strengthen its data storage and disaster-recovery capabilities. In late 2003, Spardat chose HP Services to begin implementing a disaster-tolerant environment consisting of three HP StorageWorks 5000 Enterprise Virtual Array systems. These storage systems incorporate HP virtualization technology, which lets Spardat pool and share storage resources and boost utilization levels so that supply meets demand.
