This paper provides information about the Microsoft Windows Driver Package Installer (DPInst) version 2.0 for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. DPInst is a component of the Microsoft Windows Driver Install Frameworks (DIFx) that simplifies and customizes the installation of driver packages for devices that are not yet installed on a computer (commonly known as a software-first installation). DPInst also automatically updates the drivers for any installed devices that are supported by the newly installed driver packages.
