This paper focuses on the question of what accounts for appropriate performance reports in the context of the New Public Management, and how they can deliver the information to politicians they need. Therefore, the results of an empirical study in Switzerland will be presented in this paper. Before that, the paper will shortly introduce the relevance of performance reporting as a part of the NPM, and for political decision-making, followed by a very brief description of the Swiss context.
