Since 1977, EPL Inc. has been a top provider of technology to these nonprofit financial institutions, creating software products and services that run the credit union's core business systems, from branch management and accounting to loan processing, member services, ATMs and more. EPL faces competition from two fronts: directly from other credit union solution vendors and indirectly from commercial banks that compete against credit unions with sophisticated financial products and services of their own. EPL began its turnaround in 2002, launching a flagship product called i POWER, a Web-based application that has become a hit with customers because it is easier to use and update and costs less to own than EPL's previous products based on a Unisys mainframe.
