The Academic Medical Center (AMC) is a health research and educational care facility located in Amsterdam. Just like any other large organization without a centralized calendaring and scheduling system, the medical center's employees had no convenient way to arrange meetings and reserve resources such as conference rooms. And in a hospital environment with a lot of busy full- and part-time people on sometimes very different work schedules, it was difficult and cumbersome to rely on the telephone as a way to make appointments. The main reason for selection was that Oracle Calendar enabled individual time scheduling and management, group scheduling and PDA synchronization and it was a natural successor to the already used Netscape Calendar.
