To understand why United Asset Coverage, Inc. (UAC) recently jumped to number 24 on the annual Inc listing of America's 500 fastest-growing private companies, consider this: The average company spends roughly 30% of its tech budget not on buying equipment, but on maintaining it. UAC realized that if its infrastructure shortcomings weren't corrected, customer relationships would suffer, jeopardizing contract renewals as well as equipment add-ons, big sources of new revenue. In August 2001 UAC launched an Oracle-based system that helped solve its billing and customer-service problems, and primed the company for a new era of profitable growth.
