In 1999, Peterborough City Council had sub-contracted the management of the Lido, the Athletics Track, and the regional Fitness and Swimming Centre, to DC Leisure Management. The initial five-year contract came with a two-year extended option, began on 1 April. The official opening day event was well attended by the city council and representatives from DC Leisure Management. The Senior Sports Officer had decided from the outset that the contract would be based on a 'partnership' style rather than a traditional 'us and them' approach. It was really important that this contract worked. The partners organised monthly client and technical services meetings, and six-month contract review meetings for major issues. During the initial tendering process, the contract management unearthed approximately 400 clarification questions that needed to be discussed.
