Secondary schools face multiple challenges in equipping learners with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills. Not only must they identify meaningful vocational ICT courses that meet the needs of all their pupils, but their staff often need to gain more confidence to deliver the curriculum effectively. These were the challenges facing Benjamin Britten High School (BBHS), located in Lowestoft, Suffolk. BBHS, a technology college for 850 pupils aged 13-18, has plans for expansion and has been educating the local community since it opened in 1979. By successfully applying to become a Regional Microsoft IT Academy, BBHS is training staff, pupils and adult learners from the local community in Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) qualifications, using Microsoft Press Step-by-Step course material, which maps directly to the MOS Certification exams.
