This paper summarizes the legal research that has been conducted while preparing the consultation paper entitled, Rethinking Point of Sale Disclosure for Segregated Funds and Mutual Funds. The consultation paper prepared for the Joint Forum of Financial Market Regulators (the Joint Forum) sets out proposals to improve and harmonize the way information about segregated funds and mutual funds is conveyed to consumers who are facing investment decisions. The primary focus in this paper is on the legal requirements governing how and when consumers receive information about their investment decisions and the rights that flow to them when they get this information.
